Bio

Dr. Dave Nagpal joined London Health Sciences Centre as a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon and Critical Care Physician in November 2012 as an assistant professor. After graduating from Queen’s University with a B.Sc. in Physiotherapy, Dr. Nagpal received his medical degree at Western University. During the third year of his cardiac surgery residency at Western University, Dr. Nagpal completed a Master’s degree in International Healthcare Management, Economics, and Policy at Bocconi University in Milan, Italy. He then returned to Western to complete his residency, followed by a critical care medicine fellowship at Western and then an advanced heart failure fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.

Dr. Nagpal was appointed the Surgical Director of the Advanced Heart Failure and Mechanical Circulatory Support Program in 2013 and Co-Director of the Cardiac Care Unit in 2017. He is the recipient of several resident teaching awards and contributes to undergraduate, graduate, and post graduate medical education. He contributes locally and nationally to clinical, administrative, and research bodies, and has served as Treasurer for the Canadian Cardiovascular Critical Care Society (CANCARE) since 2010. His research interests include resuscitation (fluid therapy, acute and chronic cardiac devices support in management of heart failure / cardiogenic shock), cardiac transplantation, and investigation for optimization of cardiac surgical and critical care outcomes. Dr. Nagpal has 52 publications and 21 abstracts in peer reviewed journals and has presented at 46 national and international conferences.
